1. International Licensing SupportJAIU graduates practise in multiple jurisdictions. Eligibility for independent practice is determined by the competent medical council of the destination country and typically requires successful completion of a national or international licensing examination after diploma recognition. The Career Center therefore maintains dedicated preparation tracks aligned with the principal examination pathways of JAIU cohorts.
Preparation tracks organized within the Center:
- USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination) — Steps 1 and 2 CK, with orientation to ECFMG certification and ERAS residency application;
- NExT / FMGE (India) — in continuity with the University’s existing FMGE preparation programme and academic partnerships;
- PLAB (United Kingdom) — in accordance with GMC recognition of JAIU as an approved institution for medical education and listing in the World Directory of Medical Schools;
- AMC (Australian Medical Council examinations) — for graduates seeking registration in Australia;
- additional national pathways upon request, including NLE/PMC (Pakistan), BMDC (Bangladesh), NMC (Nepal), SLMC (Sri Lanka), and equivalent procedures in the Maldives and other partner jurisdictions.
Each track comprises an academic calendar of subject modules, question-bank practice, full-length mock examinations under timed conditions, eligibility and registration counselling, and documentation support for diploma verification. The Center works in conjunction with the JAIU USMLE Club and the Graduation-Year Preparation Wing.
Partnerships with clinical learning platforms. To ensure access to contemporary, evidence-based learning resources, the Career Center establishes institutional arrangements with recognized online clinical platforms, including Lecturio, Osmosis, and AMBOSS. Through the Center, eligible students and graduates may obtain organized access to institutional or group subscriptions, study plans mapped to the relevant examination blueprint, and faculty-guided use of the platforms. Platform access complements, and does not replace, the University curriculum, simulation-center training, and supervised clinical practice.
Licensing support is provided as academic and administrative guidance. Examination registration, fees, visa procedures, and the final decision of a foreign medical council remain the responsibility of the candidate and the receiving authority.
2. Clinical Internship and Rotations GuidanceThe MD programme of JAIU is structured as a five-year academic track followed by a mandatory one-year clinical internship (internatura), consistent with the State Educational Standard for specialty 560001 General Medicine and with the University Regulations on the Organization of Student Practical Training. Completion of internatura is a prerequisite for independent clinical practice in the Kyrgyz Republic and is an essential component of professional readiness for licensing examinations abroad.
The Career Center, jointly with the Faculty of Medicine and the Clinical Affairs unit, establishes clear pathways for students completing the 5+1 model:
- Pathway A — Internatura in the Kyrgyz Republic. Allocation to affiliated hospitals in the Jalal-Abad region, Osh, and Bishkek, with priority placement assistance, documentation support, and a subsequent route to postgraduate residency programmes in Kyrgyzstan.
- Pathway B — Internship in the graduate’s home country or another receiving jurisdiction. Guidance on recognition of the JAIU diploma, mapping of rotation requirements to the receiving country’s internship rules, and coordination of letters of verification requested by hospitals and medical councils.
Clinical bases and memorandums of understanding. Practical training and internatura are conducted at University clinics and at healthcare institutions bound to JAIU by long-term cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding. The University clinical infrastructure includes the multidisciplinary clinic “Shifaa”, clinics under operational management (“Zharmukhamed”, “ISMAA-MED”), Jalal-Abad Regional Clinical Hospital, the Regional Children’s Hospital, Jalal-Abad United Clinical Hospital, family-medicine centres, and specialized regional centres. Combined bed capacity of affiliated facilities exceeds 595 beds.
International clinical partnerships — including agreements with Chinor Medical Center (Tashkent Medical Academy) and multidisciplinary hospitals in India and Pakistan (among them KIMS Hospital, Nobel Hospital, Nova Hospital, and Bombay Hospital & Medical Research Centre) — provide additional rotation and observership opportunities subject to the terms of each memorandum and to the academic calendar.
Rotation guidance covers the standard internatura profile: therapy, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, emergency and urgent care, and other departments stipulated by the educational programme. Before patient contact, students complete briefings on infection control, occupational safety, professional ethics, and deontology. Clinical procedures are performed only under the supervision of an instructor or attending physician. Progressive roles in practical training include assistant to junior medical staff, assistant nurse, assistant to the emergency paramedic, assistant to the inpatient physician, and assistant to the physician.
The Center maintains a register of current MOUs and practice agreements, advises students on application timelines and required documents, and collects supervisor reports, Mini-CEX / DOPS forms, and internship completion records for the student portfolio and the graduate dossier.
3. Graduate Employment and Tracking DeskIn accordance with SMK-90-07, the Career Center operates a Graduate Employment and Tracking Desk. The Desk collects, verifies, and analyses cohort-level data required for internal quality assurance, external accreditation, and transparent public reporting. Monitoring focuses on actual career trajectories rather than on formal status alone and distinguishes between graduates remaining in the Kyrgyz Republic and those returning to home countries.
Indicators recorded for each graduating batch include:
- number of graduates and completeness of follow-up data;
- employment in the specialty within 12 months;
- continuation of education (internatura, residency, master’s, PhD);
- license-examination pass rates by jurisdiction (FMGE/NExT, USMLE, PLAB, AMC, NLE and others);
- residency-match and postgraduate-placement rates;
- return to the home country and subsequent registration with the national medical council;
- self-employment and identified barriers to practice.
Data sources include graduate and employer surveys, dean’s offices and academic advisors, partner hospitals and medical councils, digital services, and official verification requests. Aggregate results are submitted to the Rectorate, used to adjust educational programmes, and form part of the evidence base for institutional and programme accreditation. Individual personal data are processed in accordance with University regulations on information security and applicable legislation.
Employment assistance provided by the Desk includes information on vacancies in public and private healthcare organizations; support in preparing curricula vitae, e-portfolios, and recommendation letters; facilitation of contact with employers; interview preparation; and verification letters for medical councils and recruiting institutions. Placement support is available for opportunities in the Kyrgyz Republic, Central Asia, Gulf countries, the Maldives, and other partner regions.
