Bioethics Committee

Jalal-Abad International University has established a Bioethics Committee — an independent collegial body responsible for conducting ethical review of research carried out at or in cooperation with the university. The Committee ensures that research activities comply with national and international ethical standards and principles.

The Committee’s primary mission is to protect the rights, dignity, safety, well-being, and confidentiality of research participants, while also promoting a culture of academic integrity and responsible scientific conduct.
The Bioethics Committee reviews medical, clinical, social, psychological, and educational studies involving human participants, personal data, or biological materials. Special attention is given to research involving vulnerable groups, including children, pregnant women, patients, and individuals with limited autonomy.

In its activities, the Committee follows the legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic, the university charter, and internationally recognized ethical guidelines, including the Declaration of Helsinki of the World Medical Association, the CIOMS/WHO International Ethical Guidelines, ICH E6(R3) Good Clinical Practice standards, and UNESCO documents on bioethics and human rights.

The Committee conducts independent ethical reviews of research projects, evaluates benefit-risk balance, assesses informed consent procedures, and monitors compliance with confidentiality and personal data protection requirements.
Particular importance is attached to dissertation research, international scientific collaborations, and grant-funded projects that require ethical approval. The Committee’s work contributes to improving the quality of scientific research, strengthening international cooperation, and enhancing the university’s academic reputation.

The establishment and operation of the Bioethics Committee represent an important step in the development of the university’s research activities and demonstrate JAIU’s commitment to international standards of academic and research ethics.
